The story of the night

Floyd Jenkins's banjo cuts through a fog of synthesizer that sounds like it's being played underwater, while Serenity Against the Machine's percussionist nods off into his snare every third measure—the room caught between a trance and a lullaby, everybody sweating but nobody moving. One band found God in the weirdness; the other found peace in the fade. Transcendence versus surrender.
